FAQs about riding the Mount Washington Cog Railway

  1. Advance ticket purchase is recommended for all Spring, Summer and Fall Trains up to 2 hours prior to departure. Buy Tickets Online here.
  2. Our coaches are historic design with narrow door openings. However, every effort will be made to accommodate special needs. Please call ahead for assistance.
  3. Coaches are enclosed and heated when necessary, and run in all weather. Temperatures at the summit may vary as much as 40 degrees, be sure to bring ample clothing.
  4. Smoking is not permitted on any train or in any of our buildings at any time.
  5. Passengers may not carry alcohol on board at any time. (RSA 179.27)
  6. All trains board 15 minutes prior to departure on a first come, first seated basis.
  7. There are no restroom facilities on the train.
  8. Only service animals are allowed on the train. (No pets, please.)
  9. Due to the limited time on the summit it is suggested that passengers use the restrooms, gift shop and restaurant at Marshfield Base Station prior to and after their excursion.
  10. Most trains are authentic coal-fired steam, please dress accordingly.
  11. One-way tickets are sold from the top only and are subject to space availability.
  12. Strollers, car seats and coolers are not allowed on the train. Carry-on items must be small enough to fit in your lap.
  13. All schedules, fares and motive power are subject to change without notice. Trains may be canceled due to extreme weather or lack of bookings. No refunds due to weather.
  14. Trains depart at 5 minutes before the hour. No refunds or exchanges for missed trains. No refunds due to weather.
  15. ALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL. No refunds or exchanges. In the event of a cancellation for which there is no rescheduled date, a refund for this ticket may be issued at the option of the management.
